HISTORY OF THE WOMAN'S AUXILIARY

The Woman's Auxiliary was organized in 1913 as a support group to the Association. It was referred to as The Women and Their Work. The Auxiliary stands for the same as the Association: Christian Education and Home and Foreign Mission. It is a cooperative endeavor undertaken by the sisters and brethren through which there can be greater work done for Christ and bring about a complete cooperation among the women in the churches. It is also a means by which all the sisters can be represented in church work, and is an absolute necessity to the success of every church

Moderator J .E. Boykins, in 1915, said of The Women and Their Work- which men and women work together , most of is accomplished whether it be in the home, or in the church. A woman instinctively feels the call to better conditions, not only for her church but for all the churches. The more a woman become involved in making her church better, the more the church will prosper and grow spiritually an financially. He stated that the women were alive on the subject of betterment work and felt that through woman's activities in her various activities in her various organizations that the Association would receive its greatest impetus in the next few years

One of the most representatives meetings of the Baptist women was held at East Market Street Baptist Church, Greensboro, beginning Friday before the first Sunday in July. It was the Auxiliary's Second Annual Session. It brought together some of our best women workers, those who were active in their work of the denomination. The women were at their best and the greatest audiences heard with delight their strong appeals and helpful addresses. Moderator Boykin bade the women God's speed in their labors to better the conditions of humanity, the race and the church.

A Youth/Young Adult Department was established in the 1930's to give the Young People and opportunity to be trained as workers for Christ and help advance the standards of the mother Auxiliary. Each year, a scholarship is given to some deserving boy or girl who wishes to further his/her education. We are proud of our Young People. Also, delegates are sent to the State and Lott Carey Conventions, Congress of Christian Education and to the J. J. Johnson Assembly Site in Laurel hill to attend Bible Camp each summer.

Over the years, the Woman's Auxiliary has reduced it Annual Session days to 2 instead of 3 as was originally started. A pre-convention banquet, a beautiful fellowship, adds spiritual dimensions to the Annual Session which is held Thursday and Friday of the first week in July of each year.

The Woman's Auxiliary will always be kept its purpose in view lift high the standards of religion, exhibit faithful Christian character and high ideals, possess a determination to practice clean thoughts and clean habits, be faithful to the church, teach the Word of God by precept and example, and always strive for improvement to advance to the Work of the Auxiliary. We are growing strength and in the grace of our Lord and Savior. We desire your prayers as we continue in this faith and in this race trying to make heaven our home.

FROM THE DESK OF THE PRESIDENT OF WOMEN'S AUXILIARY

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ: I am grateful for another opportunity to greet each of you in the sprit of our great Christian fellowship and united by faith, love and prayer.

It's a great feeling to have sisters like you, for we are Christian friends, we share the same Christ, the same Lord and Savior, and between us there is a bond greater than any earthly tie.

I pray that we continue to build and never destroy, become women who spread happiness, never gloom; women who develop character, not pull it down, because we know that He lives for He lives in us

God Bless and Guide You

Love,

Annie M. Lewis
