Helps Ministry The United Usher Board met with the High Point Association in 1931 at Belview Baptist Church, Haw River, NC with Rev. S. D. Townsend serving as president. He offered several recommendations for the Usher Board. Rev. F. D. Fuller was elected president for the 1934-35 terms. The United Usher was given Friday afternoon during the Association to render a program and transact business. The United Usher Board was also required to meet in the Mid-Year meeting of the Association. In 1935, Moderator J. B. Ellis authorized the United Ushers to come together and organize themselves as an auxiliary to the Association rather than one in the bounds of the Association. Questions arose as to the meeting dates of the ushers, and it was finally decided to let them have their annual meeting Thursday and Friday before the second (2nd) Sunday in June each year. The Usher Board Convention was organized as a body, 1940. The first (1st) session of the Usher Board Convention was held with the St. James Baptist Church, Greensboro, NC in 1940. The second (2nd) session was held with Reynold's Chapel, Guilford College, in 1941. The first officers were: Rev. S. D. Townsend, President 1940-1950-1958 Mr. Truman A. Gant- President 1958 Mr. Ernest Holt- President; 1958-89- 31 years Mr. T. A. Gant Sarah Hedrick Mr. Ernest Holt
