HISTORY

In 1981, Rev. Ambrose Jackson needed the spiritual calling to develop a church in which the meek, the poor, afflicted and the brokeheated may be healed. The church was named Westmore Baptist Church in honor of the two spiritual leaders that helped develop his Christian experience. In 1985, the church name was changed to the present Gospel Light Missionary Baptist Church.

Gospel Light Baptist Church's spiritual foundation is built on Pastor Jackson's mission to be obedient to God and to carry out the great comission as God has commanded in Matthew 28:19-20. The church is a witness ministry seeking those that are lost and heavy burden. Gospel Light is a small church with big hearts and lots of love.

The first church service was held on July 5, 1981 at the Applied Youth Building on Phillip Ave. in Greensboro, North Carolina. In 1981, the church moved to E Market St. and then to building at 2508 E. Bessemer Ave. The congregation made their home at this location until 1998. On May 19. 1996, Gospel Light Baptist Church held their ground breaking for the construction of a new church building at 1412 Woodmere Drive, Greensboro, Nc. The church was completed in 1997 and Gospel Light Baptist Church was blessed to hold their first service in the sanctuary on March 1, 1998.

Despite the challenges, the Gospel Light Family has been blessed. Through the Inspiration, leadership and strong faith of the pastor, the first lady and members of Gospel Light, the church continues to grow and in its efforts to reach the place where God wants us to be in the ministry. As Pastor Jackson stated in his first sermon: "we have and will continue to use what we have." We thank God for his blessing and the support of our members and friends. We are conrident that through enduring, faith, and constant prayers God will continue to add more to the body.
